Apparently 3 or 4 engines have been replaced at that dealership alone. I'm a huge car lover, and this one just takes the cake. One month after purchasing the engine started to run rough, especially noticeable while at a stop light or sitting at an idle. I can usually tell when it's about to happen because the car will idle really rough and will have trouble accelerating. The work was performed under extended warranty. The current mileage is 71,000 and failure mileage was 65,000. The number of cylinders were unknown. Now they are 5 years or 50K or 60K. Actually, this vehicle had a defective engine from the day it was purchased.

The big tipoff for me that a coil or coils are dying is out of nowhere the car won't fire off like normal. Few months past sound got louder, car starting eating up my gas and then my car would give me issues starting. At least twice as long. Needs a new engine, in the Uk so only 3yr warranty. I called the dealership and their tech said basically the same thing they were saying about the vvt issues in earlier models. Car now starts but engine compression not in spec.
The vehicle would not start and the dealer stated that the failure was due to the rotary engine. Took 95,000 miles to do which isn't bad. Took the dealer 4 attempts after 4 breakdowns to find the cause. I would like to point out that whatever dealership you are dealing with concerning these issues is probably not the one I work for. The last one I had done the dealership didn't even change the oil filter, I marked it with a marker and sure enough when I picked the car up from the dealership the old filter was still being used, I was a little hot to say the least.

I had to wait on the side of I-95 for 4 hours because of the storm to get towed to the mechanic who did the oil change!
